The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design is located at 2 East 91st Street and is the only museum in the U.S. that specializes in historic and contemporary fashion design. The collections in the museums dates back to 240 years.
El Museo del Barrio is located at 1230 5th Ave and celebrates the Latino fashion culture. There exhibits includes Puerto Rican, Caribbean and Latin American Art.
The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum is located at 227 West 27th Street and is the home to over 50,000 costumes and apparel dating back to the 18th century. It is the only museum in the city that is dedicated to the art of fashion. The museum features the work of famous designers such as Chanel and Dior.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute is located at 1000 5th Avenue. It has more than 35,000 costumes, dresses and accessories from all over the world from the present and back in the fifteenth century. The famous “Masterworks: Unpacking Fashion,” exhibit features 60 acquisitions of the past ten years.
The Museum of the City of New York is located on 1220 5th Ave and 103rd Street. The museum showcases theatrical costumes, gowns, garments and accessories starting from the 17th century and here in the present. It also provides their viewers with the history of the way the rich dressed in New York City.
